Loaning Kindle Books?

With the much heralded announcement that Amazon has granted Kindle users the ability to loan eBooks to one another has been overshadowed by the fact that it just doesn’t work very well.

“Starting yesterday, a select number of eligible Kindle books can be loaned exactly once for fourteen days only to anyone using Kindle software on any device. It’s all pretty simple: all you need to do is press “Loan this book” and fill in the borrower’s name, email address and a personal message. They then have seven days to accept the loan, and then they have two weeks after that to actually read the dang thing.

The problem with the Kindle’s book lending scheme, as in the Nook’s scheme, is that the ability to lend books to a friend basically is all up to the publisher, and there’s no rhyme or reason to which books are “eligible” for loan and which aren’t.”
